This week at Chapin High School, students were involved in a spirit week in preparation for Chapin Football’s annual beach rivalry game. While usually this game is played against Mid Carolina, this year the game is against AC Flora.
This game comes with much anticipation because it is Chapin’s first home game of the season, along with the opening of the newly built press box that towers above the field as the town of Chapin’s tallest building.
During the week of the game, students at CHS dressed according to the spirit theme of the day. Monday was ‘merica Day, Tuesday was Twin Tuesday, Wednesday was Country Club vs Cowboys, Thursday was Generations Day, with freshmen dressing as babies, sophomores as college kids, juniors as adults, and seniors as senior citizens.
And finally, Friday was the annual senior Toga Pep rally. Seniors run out the tunnel in the arena to celebrate their senior year, while all the other classes dress in a beach theme.
Ms. Williams, the student government advisor at CHS, said that her favorite spirit day this week was Generations Day.
“I enjoy seeing all the generations,” she said. “I am very excited for the pep rally on Friday.”
Elli Parler, senior, a member of Student Government helped to prepare for Spirit Week. “I painted banners for TOGA day for the seniors,” she said.
Students, like sophomore Nyla Gleaton, were also very excited for the pep rally on Friday, which is being built up by all of the spirit days.
“I can’t wait for the pep rally so I can play in some of the games,” Gleaton said.
After all of the festivities at school during the week, Chapin Varsity Football played AC Flora on Friday night. The buildup for this game was described as massive, with the opening of the newly built press box that had been under construction for a year and a half. The press box also included the opening of the new Eagle Club sponsor seats in the stands and a Spirit store and concession stand on the first level.
“Standing up here feels like watching a game at a college stadium,” said senior Evan Canfield, when asked about the Eagle Club seating.
Students, as well as players, were eager to get back to Friday Night Lights. The first home game of the season promises to be full of energy and excitement.
“Toughness will be the key,” said senior Brady Albero, Eagles quarterback. Albero said he is ready for his Senior season, and believes he and the team are ready for whatever comes their way.
“Whoever leaves it all on the field and plays tough will come out on top,” said Albero.
Chapin played an incredible game and beat AC Flora 62-21, with touchdowns from Junior runningback Cole Martin, Junior wide receiver Stone Furrey, and senior linebacker Gavin Stam. Junior cornerback Peyton Griffin had an active night as well, tallying two interceptions.
Chapin moves to an undefeated record of 3-0, beating Spring Valley on September 6th with a score of 49 to 14.
